Lighting the Forest: A Cultural Beacon Revived from Time
Deep in the mountains where there is no sea, a red lighthouse stands unexpectedly.
Once an abandoned paper factory for 40 years, it has been reborn as a vibrant space for art and culture. Sansok Lighthouse in Soyang-myeon is a complex cultural space that, like a lighthouse guiding ships in the dark, brightens the hearts of weary travelers with art.
It is also known as a spot visited by BTS during their stay in Wanju, making it an essential stop on the “BTS Pilgrimage Course” for ARMYs.
✨ Highlights of the Journey
1. The Red Landmark (The Forest Guide) The symbol of this place is undoubtedly the Red Lighthouse, created by transforming an old factory chimney. Standing tall between the lush green forest and the gray abandoned buildings, its vivid red color makes it one of the most popular photo zones in Wanju.
Photo Tip: Place the lighthouse in the center of your frame against the blue sky. The stark color contrast creates a fairytale-like scene.
2. Art from Ashes (The Aesthetics of Upcycling) Water tanks and buildings that were left neglected for decades have been transformed into galleries, cafes, and experience centers. The rough texture of the old walls remains, while the interiors are filled with modern sensibilities, showcasing the essence of “Upcycling Architecture.”
3. The Whale of Imagination In the outdoor garden, a giant white whale sculpture seems to swim through the forest. It is a space that gifts imagination to children and lost innocence to adults. Enjoying a cup of coffee at the “Sons Son Cafe” while walking on the spacious lawn is a privilege only found here.
