๐Ÿฐ The Fortress Guarding Time: Wibongsanseong

Majesty Sculpted by History and Nature: Wibongsanseong Fortress

Passing the waters of Oseongje and the gardens of Awon, if you venture deeper into the mountains, a massive stone wall suddenly blocks your path.

It is the place where BTS took their iconic group photos for the <2019 Summer Package>, creating a mysterious atmosphere reminiscent of a “Secret Castle.” This is Wibongsanseong Fortress, a sentinel that has silently stood its ground, embracing the history of the Joseon Dynasty. Here, where even the moss blooming between rugged stones becomes art, your journey reaches its climax.

โœจ Highlights of the Journey

1. The Arched Gate: A Frame for History (Hongyemun) The signature of Wibongsanseong is the semi-circular stone gate known as Hongyemun. This is the exact spot where BTS members stood in front of and atop the wall, striking charismatic poses. The arch, formed by layers of rough stones, acts as a perfect natural “frame,” making the subject stand out dramatically.

Photo Tip: Stand under the gate or beside the stone wall. Photos taken against this majestic backdrop offer an overwhelming aura that modern settings simply cannot replicate.

2. A Sanctuary for the King This is not just a wall. In the Joseon Dynasty, it was a fortress built to safely evacuate the Eojin (Royal Portrait) of King Taejo, the founder of the dynasty, from Jeonju Gyeonggijeon Shrine during times of war. Because it holds the resolute history of protecting the King’s face, the fortress still exudes a noble and dignified atmosphere.

3. The Road Less Traveled The winding road leading to Wibongsanseong and the surrounding mountain ridges make for an excellent driving course. The area around the fortress remains untouched by artificial decorations, leaving only traces of nature and time. Walking along the wall feels like stepping back into the past.
