a) From Incheon International Airport (ICN)

3. History & Opening Date

  • The site of Seoul Forest has a layered history: it was once a royal hunting ground in the Joseon-era, then later became Seoul’s first water-treatment plant (1908), then a horse-racing track (1954), then a golf course/sports park, and ultimately transformed into the urban forest park it is today.
  • The park officially opened on June 18, 2005.
  • The creation of the park was notable as a public–private partnership, with citizen participation (e.g., tree-planting by 5,000 citizens and 70 firms between 2003-2005) for development.
