1. (bi)

Meaning: Rain

[Examples]

  • (bi-ga wa-yo) / It’s raining.
  • (bi on-da) / It’s raining.

[Dialogue]

  • A: (nae-il nal-ssi eo-ttae-yo) / How’s the weather tomorrow?
  • B: (bi-ga on-dae-yo) / They say it’s going to rain.

2. (yeol-dae-ya)

Meaning: A state where the temperature remains high even at night / Tropical night

[Examples]

  • (yeol-dae-ya-ga gye-sok-dwae-yo) / Tropical nights continue.
  • (yeol-dae-ya ttae-mun-e jam-eul mot ja-yo) / I can’t sleep because of the tropical night.

[Dialogue]

  • A: (eo-je jal jat-sseo-yo) / Did you sleep well yesterday?
  • B: (a-ni-yo yeol-dae-ya ttae-mun-e mot jat-sseo-yo) / No, I couldn’t sleep because of the tropical night.

3. (jang-ma)

Meaning: A period in summer when it rains continuously for a long time

[Examples]

  • (jang-ma-ga si-jak-dwaet-sseo-yo) / The rainy season has started.
  • (jang-ma-ye-yo) / It’s the rainy season.

[Dialogue]

  • A: (i-beon jang-ma-neun eon-je-bu-teo si-jak-doen-dae-yo) / When do they say this rainy season starts?
  • B: (chil-wol-bu-teo jang-ma-ga si-jak-doen-dae-yo) / They say the rainy season starts from July.

4. (so-na-gi)

Meaning: Rain shower

[Examples]

  • (so-na-gi-ga wa-yo) / A sudden shower is coming.
  • (so-na-gi on-da) / A sudden shower is coming.

[Dialogue]

  • A: (u-san ga-ji-go i-sseo-yo) / Do you have an umbrella?
  • B: (a-ni-yo so-na-gi-ra-seo bi-ga geu-chil ttae-kka-ji gi-da-ril geo-ye-yo) / No, since it’s just a sudden shower, I’ll wait until the rain stops.
